One of the best parts of my job as a college recruiter is the people with whom I encounter. I truly enjoy those in-frequent college fairs, events, conferences, etc. that only take place once or twice per year. It’s great at these things how I run into other college reps. Sure we’re technically competitors, but I’m a nice guy. 🙂 Were all in it together and basically know that. That’s why it’s nice.
We share a lot of neat and pertinent information that helps us in our jobs, whether it be trying to get into a high school to recruit, or the latest new programs and degrees that other schools are picking up.
This time, I got some great scholarship information from a good friend and colleague of mine. Dorri is a college recruiter for Brown Mackie College, Akron, Ohio and sent me a list of scholarships that she received from her Uncle.
This is nice because they are targeted to African Americans as there are many, many scholarships that target specific ethnicities. Don’t sell yourself short. Keep searching for those. I even provided past posts on different scholarships that you can apply to. Many of them are probably past its deadline for this year, but seriously there are some that have June or July due dates.
Don’t sell yourself short.
Though there are a number of companies and organizations that have donated money for scholarships to African-Americans, a great deal of the money is being returned because of a lack of interest or awareness of the scholarship.
Take the initiative to involve and empower yourselves to searching through scholarships. It’s sad when money is not awarded merely because of lack of interest. Money shouldn’t be returned to donating companies because we fail to apply for it.

I checked through all these sites, but didn’t apply for any of the scholarships. I don’t condone scholarship organizations that charge you. If any of these actually have a fee that you have to pay, forget about it. Don’t apply for those scholarships, and let me know. I would ONLY endorse and recommend scholarships that are free to apply for.
These scholarships are for information/resource purposes only. Please be sure to check all eligibility requirements and “the small print” to make sure they are all legit.
As always, I’d love to hear from you! I’d be happy to share any new and neat ways to finance college, if you have any. Otherwise, please keep checking back, and follow my TWEETS and join my FACEBOOK page!
I work everyday to provide you with whatever I can to help you in making the right choice in careers and finding the right college. Financing is important and when it comes to thinking outside the box, I like to find money.
Please come back. I’ll miss you if you don’t. 😦
