CAREER TIP: U B U

I am so Blessed to do what I do for a living. I have the gift of gab and love being around people. Two of my best personality traits.

Sure, I can do a lot. I’m creative, energetic, personable, a problem-solver, outgoing, responsible, passionate, serious, etc., etc. Of all these personality traits, I use a few of them all the time in my job. I love it because my job allows me to be who I am.

That is your goal. Find a job that let’s YOU be YOU. Sure you won’t find the perfect job right off the bat. I didn’t. Even though I liked what I did and enjoyed living in North Carolina for several years. I still wasn’t feeling right about what I was doing with my career. I was in sales and marketing and although I liked it, it was not fulfilling enough. I was missing something. I didn’t feel like that corporate sales was my destiny, no matter how much money I made.

Then I moved into retail management and started in management for a small gourmet grocery store with about 100 employees. Big mistake. Enough said. 🙂 That lasted about 2 years, but retail management definitely didn’t fit me.

Then my journey took me to Brown Mackie College as a college representative and recruiter. I get to talk and give career exploration presentations to high school students.

In my current job, I run into a lot of students that not only do not know what they want to do, but they don’t know what they are even good at, or what would fit them.  Certainly your job is to do some research, gather some information and then check everything out that interests you.  Get some help by reading my past posts that I’ve had that can help you in THREE great ways to choosing the right career.

There is a lot of pressure on you because these are some of the first major decisions of your lifetime!  Don’t worry there are plenty more of these kind of decisions for you for the rest of your life. 🙂

But check out the next 3 links to past posts I have.  They are 3 steps for you to take in mapping your journey to choosing the correct careers. In following these THREE EASY steps to choosing careers, you already are making the first right choice in your life!

Part 3: http://wp.me/pAKTs-2I

http://wp.me/pAKTs-2Y -This post is an article I found from Fastweb.com a little while ago.  It is a great assessment of where you stand.

Speaking of which…

Where do you stand?  Do you know what you want to do for the rest of your life?

Most of us have about 45-50 years to work before we even think about retiring. So, knowing that wouldn’t it be nice to like what you do?

Many people come to me explaining they have no clue, or don’t really know exactly what to do to gather an assessment for which career best fits them.

Well, I did some research and found several websites below that I am confident would provide you with the best and most accurate process in a proper assessment of where you are and who you are with regard to career choices.

These first few links are a general assessment that you can follow. Just pick one.  A couple of them are listed questions that ask you about YOU. Questions of assessment that mainly weigh your likes and dislikes as well as general interests in different types of duties and responsibilities that are in different careers.

This site really provides a nice assessment of where you are with schooling and specific interests you might have.  Then they provide you with a great idea of jobs you can get, and degrees you can attain through schooling.

Kuder is kinda cool. I checked it out and if you are willing to invest some time for them to assist you, there is some investment of time and your own ability to participate. It also specifically targets students and parents separately.  Great advice as well.

Again these sites are recommendations by me. I don’t have my own career assessment survey or test for you to take. I’m sorry and wanted to provide you with some tips and hints as to where you can go. Try it out and let me know what you think.
